when video needs to be excellent

Have you ever looked around your home or office looking for the best screen to watch a movie? You probably have more than a few screens that could work for those times when quality matters. The Verix 2.5 gives the ultimate viewing experience.

The video card, a Nvidia GTX 580M dedicated graphics with 2GB GDDR5 video ram is what you need for excellent viewing. Also the LED backlit display @ 1920x1080 pixels makes for a crisper picture. For powerful sound, the Verix 2.5 has speakers on both sides of the keyboard and a subwoofer for quality sound output. The hyper-threaded CPU provides up to 8 threads of processing power to rival desktop processing power.

The Verix line gets better with every version. We sent a Verix 2 review machine to one of the top Linux reviewers, Joe Brockmeier and his feedback was, "If you're in the market for a Linux laptop, ZaReason and the Verix 2 should be on your shopping list." -- Joe Brockmeier at Linux.com The Verix 2.5 is even better!

Onward (for more R&D) and upward (for better specs)!

Building for Linux Excellence

Typically we have 6-8 laptops at any given time, but over the last year we have shifted to intense focus on only a few. It's the strategy Apple has taken and it seems to have worked well for them.*

We have one computer in particular that has been the focus of intense R&D, meeting the needs of just about everyone who needs a new laptop. The Alto 3880: stunning performance, well-designed balance, and a build that is meant to last for many years to come.

A review by Larry Cafiero, "High on the Alto 3880":

http://larrythefreesoftwareguy.wordpress.com/

"Regardless of what distro is running on it, the Alto 3880 is remarkably versatile a nd handles a wide range of work without complaint...The screen is very clear and handles high resolutions flawlessly, which is a benefit for those who want to do things like watch videos or do intricate graphics work... Across the distro board, the audio and video performance was outstanding, with the onboard speakers sounding good enough to forgo plugging in speakers in some cases (though the speakers sounded good, too, when used to watch DVDs). the laptop itself is lightweight but solid, and the design is top-notch — this is a beautiful laptop."

Please sign up for our twitter feed to find out more about upcoming products. The R&D has been intense! But the results, which you will see soon, are stunning. @zareason

* As we grow, we will build out our product like more like Lenovo and... unfortunately there aren't many that have earned a reputation for high quality across the board. If we don't have the laptop you need right now, please keep us on your radar since we will probably have it sooner or later (such as a laptop with an eraser mouse for Carla Schroder).

Giving Ubuntu Meaning
I recently wrote a letter of recommendation for a former employee. In return, I received:

*~*~*~

"Thank you so much for taking time in your busy life to write the letter. I saw this story on my friends Facebook page when I heard it I thought of you in more ways than one.....

"Today I read a story about an anthropologist who proposed a game to the kids in an African tribe. He put a basket full of fruit near a tree and told the kids that who ever got there first won the sweet fruits. When he told them to run they all took each others hands and ran together, then sat together enjoying their treats. When he asked them why they had run like that as one could have had all the fruits for himself they said: UBUNTU, how can one of us be happy if all the other ones are sad?
UBUNTU in the Xhosa culture (where my husband is from:) means: "I am because we are""

*~*~*~

Perhaps it happened; perhaps it didn't, but either way it does give a strong visual for how we work in the FOSS community.

We are all running towards the sweet fruit that is, in this case, beautiful devices that just work. Thanks for buying our computers. Thanks for sending us emails suggesting what you want next. Thanks for offering solutions. Thanks for not running ahead to the sweet fruit without us. We are trying to do the same by sending all improvements to the code upstream, running in tandem with this wildly diverse, wonderfully generous group of people. Thanks for including us, hardware builders, in the mad dash towards making the code, the machines, all of it, better.

High-end Valta X79

A Harvard scientist asked us to do a custom configuration “that will be running simulations constantly, but it'll be in an office so can it be quiet?”

We love rising to the challenge of building the finest, optimized-for-Linux hardware. A high-end workhorse that's whisper quiet. Got it.

We built it. They loved it. Soon, one of our regular customers at Stanford was buying it too. We figured it was time to name it and give it a place in ZaReason's product line.

Welcome the Valta X79 with 12 virtual cores, quad channel memory, all the specs to make you happy.

For the curious – “Valta” means “Power” in Finnish. Remember where Linus Torvalds grew up? Finland. He attended the University of Helsinki during that time of his life when he began sparking creative contribution.

Get your Valta X79 soon. You will be surprised at how quiet such a powerful machine can be. Use it for... well just about anything.
