Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, decided to reveal the existence of the Switch’s successor officially on social media – also confirming that the announcement of the new device will take place within this fiscal year.

This means that it will be shown until March 2025, not necessarily being released within this period. They may be analyzing dates and the best ways to reveal their technology and resources – as well as the titles that will be available upon launch.

In his words, the president of Nintendo assumes that the time to show what they have been working on is coming and that new official information can be seen in less than a year.

This is Furukawa, president of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It’s been nine years since we announced the existence of the Nintendo Switch, back in March 2015

Nintendo reveals next Direct

Furthermore, Furukawa also reveals when we will see the next Nintendo Direct: it will take place in June. However, before everyone gets excited, he stated that we will not see the next console within this presentation but rather the games that will arrive in the second half of 2024 for the Nintendo Switch.

We will be hosting a Nintendo Direct this June focusing on the Nintendo Switch software lineup arriving in the second half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the console’s successor during the presentation.

Rumors about the successor to the Nintendo Switch

While Nintendo hasn’t revealed the specs, features and titles we’ll see on the Switch’s successor, plenty of rumors still surround the device.

The most recent of them even points out that we will see a 40FPS mode and 120Hz frequency rate on the console. Many insiders also claim that the platform will be completely backwards compatible with the current Switch – being able to support not only current games, but Joy-Con and Pro Controllers as well.
