What can we expect from Zeenix? I believe this is the question that permeates the minds of those who have any interest or expectations for the launch of this new Brazilian console in a long time.
Since its announcement in mid-2024, many people have already had the opportunity to handle the device through its appearance on gamescom latam 2024with that, many questions remained in the air regarding Zeenix. So, at the invitation of TecToyI went to visit the company’s headquarters in São Paulo to get to know their notebook a little more closely, as well as the strategy they intend to adopt so that Zeenix has a good reception in our country – and I also took the opportunity to check out the TecToy museum.
With the information I obtained from the company’s representatives and the opportunity to play with the device a little more during my visit, I listed some topics that may be interesting for those who are curious – or even anxious – about the arrival of Zeenix in the Brazilian market.
What is Zeenix?
Although for the vast majority of us the Zeenix is a portable console, the definition that TecToy gives it is a portable computer.
With the intention that he be “the first console/computer” from many people, TecToy has a more comprehensive view of the possibilities of Zeenix in the Brazilian market. The company does not want its product to be limited to the gamer audience, going beyond games, running everyday programs, as it comes with Windows 11 directly from the factory.
If you have been following the posts about Zeenix here on Adrenaline, you have already been able to check the specifications of both the Lite and Pro models, which will be the two versions that will reach the public at launch. With the exception of the hardware inside, the external design of both models is identical, and you will only be able to identify which version you have in your hands by checking the serial number on the back of the device.
TecToy invited me to visit so that I could try the model more calmly. During gamescom latam 2024 I was already able to use the Zeenix, but it was plugged in (for safety reasons), in addition to all the frenzy that a games fair brings, such as bright lights, noise and queues. At TecToy headquarters, with a calm environment, a comfortable place to sit and time, I was able to play a little more, both with the Lite and the Pro.
Both models are very light and have a cooling system that receives air at the rear and expels it from the top (images above), which avoids any discomfort when handling it. Its magnetic triggers and levers didn’t bother me during the game, but they could be more robust. Its other buttons and the D-Pad are very comfortable and I had the chance to put them to the test by playing Ultra Street Fighter 4.
When talking about games, I was able to test, in addition to the already mentioned SF, the Bioshock Infinite (both in the Lite version of the laptop) and Starfield (in the Pro version). In both cases, the game settings were at low graphics and running at 30 FPS. In the case of Bioshock and Street Fighter, the games were in 720p, while in Starfield it was FullHD.
There weren’t many inconveniences when playing in these settings, but there were occasional stutters and crashes. The system continued to operate and the game flowed, however, it must be taken into consideration, especially in relation to the Lite version, that the games I tried are not current releases, and even so the laptop cannot reach the heights of these games.
Featuring Windows 11, the laptop will arrive to consumers completely new, with just two programs developed for Zeenix: Zeenix Control Center and the Zeenix Hubboth working with their interface particularities and to organize your games, in addition to helping with the touch features of the Zeenix screen. With this, TecToy hopes to give players the freedom to use the system as they wish.
Which portable consoles will Zeenix compete with?
TecToy is aware of its position when entering the notebook market. As a player known by Brazilians, it expects a good reception, but is aware of how competitive this segment is, with already consolidated devices and powerful hardware.
Although it has a device with more modest configurations, the Brazilian brand has differences that can weigh positively on its side – which I describe below, in the next topic.
Right now, I can create a correlation with the past, where we had the Mega Drive as a console option in the country’s major retailers, but there was also the presence of other more powerful competitors, such as PSOne e N64. Still, even with more advanced options, many opted for the console SEGA as the first video game. Will we see this again?
What is TecToy’s plan?
TecToy’s focus when making Zeenix available to Brazilians is precisely to create a national product, with warranty, technical assistance, SAC, direct interaction with the community through official channels, which includes a server on the Discordwhere consumers will be able to speak directly with the development team and suggest testing games and software so that they can present the best solution to possible problems or even implementations.
In addition to consumers, TecToy also has plans for national developers. Although we focused our conversation on the presentation of Zeenix, they made it clear that in 2025 they intend to strengthen ties with the Brazilian gaming scene to, perhaps, create an ecosystem with launches designed for Zeenix.
What is the price and when will Zeenix be released?
These are the biggest questions for those waiting for the launch of Zeenix. But we still don’t have a definitive answer.
In conversation with TecToy representatives during the visit, I asked about prices and dates and we were informed that pre-sales and launch will take place before the end of 2024.
So, if you have your eye on Zeenix, get ready, because I can guarantee that the first buyers will be in for a pleasant surprise.
And, don’t forget, as soon as it becomes available to us, we will bring Zeenix to our YouTube channel, where you can check out each of the details and tests that we will run on Zeenix.
