Nvidia would be concerned about a possible ban on selling its RTX 5090D models after the US government has established an embargo on the H20 GPUS to China. The information is not official, circulating in the form of rumors in hardware specializing forums in the country.
Videocardz gathered information from Chiphell and Benchlife, both known for circulating information and rumors that often prove true. Apparently Nvidia is asking its China partners the temporary suspension in the RTX 5090D supply chain.
A chiphell post emphasizes that Nvidia would have mentioned that the suspension does not yet mean that 5090D has already suffered a ban or embargo. “The inventory for RTX 5090D has always been low, so these stocks need to be retained to observe the situation and deal with future sales,” says the post. “In addition, we can cynically speculate that AIBS and Distributors may be holding the remaining RTX 5090D to sell more later.”
Benchlife people, meanwhile, tried to contact Aibs about the suspension and had no confirmation in this regard. However, at least one cooling module manufacturer would have received a notification to suspend orders to assemble RTX 5090D models.
RTX 5090D is not always sold for home use
The RTX 5090D is a version with part of its disabled components to offer less performance than the original RTX 5090. The measure allows Nvidia to export the product to China.
However, it is the same practice that the company did with H20 for professional use and that was not enough. Last week until these models had their sales prevented by decision of the US government.

There is already information from models being sold in China with customization focused on professional use and, last generation, companies customized the RTX 4090D with more memory to be used in AI. This kind of situation puts the future of 5090D in check.
