On August 31, 1999, 25 years ago, NVIDIA announced the first graphics card in the line GeForce. Dubbed the GeForce 256, this model is widely recognized as the first to popularize the concept of the modern GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), as it was equipped with a graphics chip that integrated geometry processing, lighting, and hardware transformation, relieving the CPU of many of these functions.

This pioneering move laid the foundations for what we understand today as a GPU, where the graphics chip plays a key role in graphics acceleration and parallel processing, features that are hallmarks of modern GPU design.

Check out the video below for some interesting facts about this card, which was the starting point for a line that became widely known among gamers and those looking for a video card, the GeForce line.
