The latest 576.02 driver for GPUS Nvidia was introduced to correct a collection of problems that had been reported in relation to the software. Ironically, users now report that the update has also brought a new bug, which wages the GPU temperature sensor.

The video card uses your internal thermometer to define your clocks by adjusting the power voltage. With the temperature locked this operation can be impaired, impacting its performance. Risks of effective damage to the plate, however, are very low, as modern GPUS have other security sensors to avoid overheating.

Users even suspected that the problem would be in third party software for monitoring, such as Riva and Afterburner. However, Alexey “Unwinder” Nicolaychuk, author of these tools, emphasized that the bug is in the Nvidia driver.

Apparently the problem is activated when the PC comes out of hibernation or energy saving mode. Restart the machine resolves, but the bug should appear again if the situation is repeated. Reports on Reddit indicate that the bug affects RTX 50, 40 and 30.

Nvidia has not yet commented on possible bug

We are still in the phase of the first reports about the possible problem, so Nvidia has not yet manifested. If the bug is really widespread it is very likely that the company should try to correct it with another driver update soon.
