Adata announces the first SD 8.0 Express card in the world, with up to 1.600mb/s of speed

Adata revealed this week the first SD 8.0 Express card in the world. The company promises up to 1,600mb/s speeds in reading, with recording reaching up to 1,200MB/s. This performance represents double what SD 7.0 Express offers, according to Adata, and up to 12 times more than UHS-I cards.

Obviously, SD 8.0 Express performance is not very comparable to a NVME PIE 4 or 5 SSD. But it is not every device that can hold such a drive, so SD cards remain a highly sought after solution. It is also worth mentioning that the new generation still offers more performance than many portable SSDs.

“The new Extreme SD 8.0 Extreme Premier Memory Card is equipped with a PCIE Gen3 X2 interface and NVME transfer protocol,” explains Adata in its disclosure. “The memory card also supports U3, V30 video class, and comes with a large 512GB capacity, easily dealing with 4K video recording, RAW image processing or multitasking.”

As mentioned in the above quote, the new SD 8.0 Express card of Adata was announced in only one capacity option with 512GB. In addition, the company declined to reveal the price for the product.

These are indications that the card will probably come by somewhat high values, especially marking the debut of a new technology and taking “Premier” even in the name.

According to WCCFTECH, Adata promised SD 8.0 Express cards with higher options of capacity “as the market matters”. That is, we will probably not see a smaller version of 256GB, with greater focus on cost x benefit. The company has not yet mentioned plans for a micro SD format with technology.
