This Monday (20) the Microsoft revealed the project Copilot+ PC. These are powerful computers prepared to use software programs. artificial intelligence. The “new era of AI” begins with the Microsoft Surface Laptop, which surpasses the Apple’s latest MacBook Air in various tasks, according to the company. Such tasks involve both AI and raw performance.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that computer systems that fully understand humans have been waiting for more than 30 years. At an event at Microsoft headquarters, the new devices were shown “who see us and understand our environment“. They are called Copilot+ PCs.

Nadella promised the fastest PC for artificial intelligence ever made by the industry. He even does 40 trillion AI operations per second. A Qualcomm is already in this initiative, and soon we will have news from AMD e Intel. Brands like Acer, Asus, DellHP, Lenovo e Samsung were also mentioned and have already announced their Copilot+ PCs devices, which should hit the market in the coming weeks/months.

Understanding the Copilot+ PC project

Copilot+ PCs are based on three essential hardware pillars: Windows, robust systems e processors advanced. To be part of the Copilot+ line, computers must meet strict criteria, with technical specifications that guarantee impeccable and efficient operation. Thus, the minimum requirements for these devices are as follows:

  • 16 GB RAM memory: this ensures agility in processing multiple tasks simultaneously and the ability to run heavy programs without crashes or slowdowns.
  • 256 GB SSD: allows faster access to data and contributes to a much more agile machine boot in comparison to traditional HDDs.
  • Integrated NPU (Neural Processing Unit): It is essential for optimizing tasks that use artificial intelligence, providing a more fluid and intelligent experience for the user.
  • Key dedicated to Copilot: demonstrating Copilot+ PCs’ commitment to accessibility and practicality, allowing users to quickly trigger digital assistants or specific functions.
  • Notch-free screen: offering a large, continuous viewing area, ideal for those looking for a cleaner, less obstructed viewing experience.

Introducing Copilot+ PCs - The Official Microsoft Blog

As for the new Surface Laptop, Microsoft opted for the chip Snapdragon X Elite from Qualcomm with the explicit intention of surpassing Apple’s latest MacBooks in terms of performance and efficiency. The tech giant shared a provocative comparison, highlighting that:

  • A Surface Laptop battery lasts 20% longer than the 15-inch MacBook Air, a considerable advantage for professionals and students who depend on battery portability and longevity in their daily tasks.
  • When it comes to maximum performance, the Microsoft device is 23% faster than MacBook Air equipped with the M3 chip, promising a significant advantage in applications that require high processing performance.
  • In the field of multitasking performance, the Surface Laptop stands out for being 58% faster than MacBook Air with M3suggesting that switching between applications and managing concomitant activities is substantially more efficient.

With all these advanced technical configurations, it is clear that Copilot+ devices are prepared to leverage the full potential of GPT-4o, the latest and most sophisticated version of ChatGPT developed by OpenAI, which was officially announced last week.

Windows 11 with new AI tools

Microsoft presents Recall, new AI technology - Mundo Conectado

Microsoft also revealed a new function for Windows 11. Called Recall, we can understand this software as a turbocharged version of File Explorer. Recall uses artificial intelligence to find documents or past sessions on PCs.”as if he had a photographic memory“, according to the Redmond Giant.

This tool eliminates the need to remember the name of a file or the folder where it is stored. Instead, you use natural language to ask your assistant to find specific information, as if you were chatting with them. Recall shows a timeline with the dates you created or moved these files, as well as providing visual previews to help with your search.

The feature uses text and image recognition technologies to find the right files. It searches among apps, document contents or visited websites. Therefore, searching for “photos from the trip” will show different results than “photos from the Christmas trip”, which is more specific.

The company says that the feature stores all search data on the device itself. You can delete some previews, limit the period of time the tool uses, or choose which sites and apps it can scan. You can also turn off this function in the system.

The first Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft took advantage of the event to also reveal the first Copilot+ PCs, which, obviously, could not be other than notebooks from the Surface line. The new ones Surface Pro e Surface Laptop will usher in this new era of AI for the general public.

The Surface Pro has the Copilot AI assistant, now integrated into Windows and with a dedicated key on the keyboard. With processors Snapdragon X Plus e X Elite, promises more performance and energy efficiency. The 13-inch OLED display offers more vivid colors and intense blacks, and its detachable keyboard works via Bluetooth.

The Surface Laptop, also equipped with Snapdragon chips, supports up to 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, in addition to including Copilot AI features. It offers multiple ports, including USB-C and Surface Connect, and a renewed design with a larger trackpad and thin edges, available on models up to 15 inches.

Prices have not yet been released, but sales start in June. There is no expected arrival date in Brazil. It is worth mentioning that Surface line devices were never officially launched here. Will Microsoft make an exception this time?
