ASUS revealed its ROG Ally X device yesterday afternoon (9), with the promise of more information for the month of June 2024. However, this did not stop company representatives from discussing some of the differences that will be seen between the new portable and its predecessor.

One of the biggest criticisms is that the corporation will maintain some specifications seen from the “base” model – such as the 7-inch 120 Hz VRR IPS display and the use of the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU (equivalent to Ryzen 7 7840U, used in other laptops and notebooks gaming).

To The Verge, ASUS pointed out that we will see significant differences in terms of making some components easier to repair – if they have a problem – more efficient battery use and also the inclusion of the notebook SD card reader, as the previous supposedly contributed to overheating.

The company’s senior product manager, Gabriel Meng, states that the entire team is working to bring improvements to the new portable device and that there will be a leap in quality – which does not necessarily mean that we will see greater results in its performance.

The battery will have a lifespan of well over 40% while we are improving storage, graphics and memory usage

Just like the Steam Deck and its OLED version, the ASUS ROG Ally X will still be part of the same product line – being sold at a higher price, depending on the improvements that are available to the public. They point out that the main purpose is to make technical improvements and bring a new design.

One of the improvements that could arrive on the new device is a RAM upgrade or eGPU support. As some Ryzen 7 7840U/8840U APUs support up to 32GB of RAM, for example, exploring these capabilities would be very welcome. However, more data about it will be released on June 2, 2024 (in less than a month).
