Intel Arc Battlemage Xe2 GPUs to be made on TSMC’s 4nm process [RUMOR]

Intel’s next-generation Arc GPUs, currently known as Battlemage, will be manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm process, DigiTimes reports. This represents a leap forward from the 6nm process used in the current generation, Alchemist.

Despite some not-so-promising benchmark leaks, Intel seems interested in taking the GPU market more seriously with its Battlemage. Equipped with Xe2 architecture, the graphics cards will offer several new features, according to rumors. That’s what the following list, organized by WCCFTech, shows:

• Up to 50% more performance compared to Alchemist
• Next-generation memory and compression subsystem
• Improved ray tracing
• Microarchitecture improvements
• Next-generation ML-based rendering technology
• DeepLink’s latest capabilities
• Aiming for performance and enthusiast gaming

Some of the above information contradicts previous rumors. In January of this year, it was reported that the top-of-the-line Battlemage GPU would not be able to compete against the most powerful cards from Nvidia or AMD.

In any case, if the information about the GPU lithography is confirmed, it will show Intel’s commitment to advances in its new architecture. TSMC itself promises that its 4nm process offers 11% more performance than the 5nm, so the jump in relation to Alchemist’s 6nm will be considerable.

The high expectations surrounding Intel’s next-generation Arc graphics cards are partly due to a shipping manifest that leaked earlier this month. The document reveals two SKUs, each with a staggering increase in their shader count. You can read the details here.

The documents are likely to be engineering samples, however. That means there’s a good chance we’ll see changes to the final configuration of the cards that actually hit the shelves. Speaking of which, Intel has promised new Battlemage GPUs for later this year.
