O WhatsApp is implementing a new feature that promises to help users not leave important messages unanswered. The functionality was discovered in the version Beta 2.24.25.9 of the Android app and now appears in the settings menu as “Reminders”.

Initially, the tool aimed to alert users about Status updates that had not yet been seen. However, the current description has been expanded to include notifications about unanswered messages. As revealed by the website WABetaInfothe functionality is now described as follows: “Receive occasional reminders about messages or Status updates you haven’t seen yet.”

How does the feature work?

WhatsApp’s algorithm automatically selects contacts whose messages will be remembered, prioritizing those with whom the user interacts most frequently. Despite this, users do not have direct control over which conversations receive alerts.

If the feature is not useful or desired, there is the option to disable it in the application’s settings menu. Additionally, reminders are only triggered for messages that have not yet been opened. So, if you have already viewed the conversation, even without responding, the alert will not be issued.

The new feature can be especially useful for avoiding forgetfulness and improving communication on the app, something that can be a problem for those who receive many messages throughout the day. On the other hand, as the feature is automatic, it may generate unwanted notifications for some users.

When will it be available?

Currently, the functionality is being tested by users of the Beta version of WhatsApp. There is no information on an official date for the feature’s release to all users.

The “Reminders” feature is another new feature that WhatsApp has explored to make the messenger more functional and adapted to everyday needs. If well received in tests, the function could become a valuable ally in organizing conversations in the app.
