Black Friday 2024 took place last Friday, with offers that came both before and even on the weekend, and ended up bringing an interesting milestone for Brazilian retail by registering a 16.1% growth in sales when compared to same period in 2023, according to Cielo.
The numbers excited the market, not only for exceeding expectations but also for marking the first time that sales exceeded levels that were only seen before the pandemic, resulting in revenues 15.25% higher than in 2019. Find out more details !

Physical commerce and e-commerce on the rise
This year, the big highlight was physical commerce, which ended up taking the lead and showed a 17.1% increase in sales. E-commerce had a more moderate, but still significant, growth of 8.9%.
The Supermarkets and Hypermarkets segment led the Black Friday results, with an impressive growth of 26.2%. Other categories that stood out were Drugstores and Pharmacies (+21.7%), Clothing (+18.2%) and Food (+17.0%).
Among the products most purchased by Brazilians, household appliances topped the list, followed by electronics, smartphones, fashion and accessories, and beauty and perfumery items.
Installment of the 13th was an important factor on this Black Friday
Experts point out that the “marriage” of the date with the payment of the first installment of the 13th salary was a determining factor in the increase in sales. This calendar coincidence has not happened since 2019 and, according to Carlos Alves, vice-president of Cielo, it was one of the drivers for the market’s heating up.
Another relevant point was the adoption of varied payment methods. The credit card continued to be the preferred option, with a 60.2% share, while Pix, although it registered a drop compared to previous editions, still represented 26.1% of transactions.
The number of products sold also rose significantly, rising from 18.88 million in 2023 to 20.67 million in 2024, an increase of 9.4%. Adding the sales made on Thursday and Friday, the total number of items sold reached 33.02 million, with an average ticket of R$180.70.
Expectations for Cyber Monday
Black Friday 2024 is already celebrated as the best in the last four years, but retailers are still waiting for sales to close completely, considering the results of the so-called Cyber Monday, which takes place today (02). Traditionally focused on electronics, this date promises to complement the already impressive numbers of Black Friday.
The performance of Black Friday 2024 shows that the market remains heated and optimistic, in addition to indicating that, even in the face of economic challenges, the Brazilian consumer remains willing to take advantage of offers and promotions to anticipate end-of-year purchases.
