Resident Evil 7 for iOS had a modest start, selling below expectations. An analysis by the website Mobilegamer.biz, using data from Appmagic, shows that the game has been launched 83,000 times since July, and it is possible to try it for free before purchasing the full version. In other words, not every launch of the game means that the person has paid to play.

Capcom made $28,140 from the title, not including the 30% commission from Apple. After some calculations, the site in question came to the conclusion that less than 2,000 users appear to have purchased the game, according to Mobilegamer’s calculations.

In June, there were hints of tentative releases for Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Village, Death Stranding and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Appmagic’s Andrei Zubov expressed skepticism about the success of console games on Apple devices to Mobilegamer.biz.

Zubov notes that successful mobile titles are often original indie games with simplified controls, distinct art styles and short play sessions — all of which are typical of free-to-play games. After all, most people don’t think of a phone as a gaming device, even though it can play some games.

He concludes that the potential audience for these games is likely to own modern consoles and have already played these titles, decreasing interest in iOS versions. Additionally, console editions tend to be more affordable and include all expansions.
