Despite the end of support for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1, NVIDIA has released a new driver for these operating systems. Version 475.06 aims to improve security on these platforms.
It is important to mention that this driver update is not “WHQL” certified, precisely because Microsoft no longer accepts submissions for its older systems. However, there are no gaming-related optimizations or bug fixes. It’s also notable that it supports up to GeForce RTX 30, excluding RTX 40 GPUs.

In other words, even if you have an NVIDIA GPU like the GTX 10 line graphics cards, all new features and improvements will continue to be brought exclusively to the latest operating systems – Windows 10 and Windows 11 – since October 2021.
Driver updates for older OSes occur periodically, ensuring that the user has more security – even if they no longer support previous versions of Windows. Furthermore, they have an end date. The drivers will be available to users until September 2024.
NVIDIA did not reveal what changes or fixes came with driver 475.06, but according to their standard, more information should be released about this in the coming days. They are likely waiting for more users to download it to detail which vulnerabilities were targeted in this latest version.
NVIDIA is attentive to the market
Even though the driver update does not reach everyone, NVIDIA clearly shows care for the portion that remains on older Microsoft operating systems. Windows 7, for example, still holds 2.86% of the user market. In games, this number is much lower: just 0.38%; according to Steam.
These are low numbers, but you should take into account that almost 3% of the 1.5 billion Windows computers is still a staggering number of users.
