Second report to GamevicioA Nintendo recently announced that, on March 31, 2026, the eShop and the online services of Nintendo Switch in China will be discontinued. The decision specifically affects the version of the console launched in the country in 2020, which works differently from the global version of the Switch.
The Chinese model of the Nintendo Switch, sold in partnership with Tencent, has a reduced selection of games and its own eShop, separate from the international version. The decision to end services in the country comes after changes in the network functions service provider in China, in addition to Nintendo’s inability to transfer the operation to a new third-party supplier.
Closing details:
- March 31, 2026: China’s eShop will stop selling games and utility apps. From that date on, games and applications in free trial versions will also no longer be available.
- May 15, 2026: Game code download and redemption services will be discontinued, along with other network-related services.
- Compensation for users: Between November 27, 2024 and March 31, 2026, owners of the Nintendo Switch China version will be able to download up to four free digital games from an available selection.
Launched in 2020, the Nintendo Switch in China hit the market with a limited supply, including only Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the games portfolio. The partnership with Tencent was fundamental for the console’s arrival in the country, but the end of services signals the end of a phase for the Japanese company in the Chinese market.
