Although Nintendo is not yet ready to reveal all the details of the Nintendo Switch, members of the Famiboards forum claim to have discovered some technical information about the device. They did this by tracking customs data and shipments related to products manufactured by the company.

According to them, in March this year the company started to adopt new codenames for its shipments, which may be related to the components of the Switch 2. One of the lists found makes reference to 6GB RAM chipswith two units being present in each console manufactured.

While it is not clear whether the model adopted is LPDDDR5 or LPDDR5X, the data indicates that the component will be capable of working with up to 7.5 million transfers per second. This would be a big leap compared to the 2017 device, which features 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM with 3.2 million transfers per second.

Switch 2 should have more storage

Famiboards members also claim to have discovered that the Switch 2 will ship from the factory with 256 GB of storage with the UFS 3.1 standard. This means that The device’s reading capacity will be 2,100 MB/s, against the 300 MB/s of the previous model. This should help ensure faster loading times for games on the device.

However, it is not yet clear what total performance it will be able to deliver, nor how it will compare to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. The new console should once again rely on chips produced by NVIDIA, as well as a hybrid format that will focus more on issues such as battery and portability than raw power.

So far, Nintendo has only confirmed that the console will be presented during the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025. Its president, Shuntaro Furukawa, also revealed that he considers the new model a continuation of the current Switch, and not exactly a revolution of concepts.
