Ryzen 200 will be exclusive to Socket FP8 and rumors mention another sku

The Ryzen 200 series features AMD’s most affordable recent processors. They were officially revealed at CES 2025, having architecture based on a Hawk Point Refresh. Now we have more information about them, according to a Chinese social network post by Lenovo’s product manager in the region.

The executive reveals that the Ryzen 200 family components will abandon past sockets, such as FP7 and FP7R2, and function exclusively in the most current FP8. The information is confirmed by AMD’s official website, where processors show only the FP8 on its socket listing. The capture below is from Ryzen 9 270, the top of the series.

In the same post, Lenovo’s representative also brings details about the Ryzen 7 8745h, which had an exclusive period with the company. He reports that this period is over and that we should soon see a new Sku for the Ryzen 200 series based on this component. The executive calls the possible product of Ryzen 7 255h – which would put this CPU between the Ryzen 7 260 and Ryzen 7 250 officers.

Videocardz people, however, points out that AMD does not use “H” or “U” variants in this series of processors. Thus, it may be that the name is wrong or that it will be a component only for China.

The issue of NPUS in Ryzen 200

Initial leaks about the AMD Ryzen 200 series pointed out that these processors would not have NPUS, or that they would come with these disabled neural processing units. However, in its official disclosure of the products, AMD revealed that only the two entry options of the line did not have the component, while the rest will use a 16 tops NPU.

It is noteworthy that the Ryzen 8745h has its NPU disabled. If the Ryzen 7 255h in fact exists, it is possible that this version reactivates the component, or that it is really an option well out of the curve for AMD proposal in the Ryzen 200 series.
