Zotac RTX 5090 appears with fewer rops, impairing the performance of 4.5%

The RTX 5090 Solid model by Zotac seems to have been done with GPUs that use less rops than the default number established for these video cards. The information comes from techpowerup, which ascertained the difference directly on one of these signs you received from AIB.

The standard number of RTX 5090 RAST Operations Pipelines (ROP) is 176, but Zotac Solid appears with 168 enabled. There are only 8 difference and the impact on performance is small, but it is still a curious error of quality control.

TechPowerup reports that it noted that the performance of Zotac RTX 5090 Solid was slightly smaller than Nvidia’s standard model, Founders Edition, but had not yet found the reason. In the site’s forums, however, the Wuxi Gamer user commented on the difference in Rops count on GPU-Z.

The technicians of the site, then, checked their own board and found the same numbers. The impact on performance, of course, depends on how much the game depends on the ROPs in its ratering, and can reach 4.54%. Imperceptible to most users, but still out of what was promised by Nvidia for such a expensive sign.

Wrong Rops on RTX 5090 Is Zotac or Nvidia failure?

It is the fault of the two companies, according to TechPowerup. The site explains that Zotac is unable to move the number of video card rops, either hardware level or by BIOS, so it was probably not a direct AIB action that impacted the count of these Undiades.

Thus, it would be more fault of Nvidia, who has already sent the GPU like this to Zotac. However, this relatively “simple” error of being perceived has gone through the quality control of both companies until RTX 5090 Solid reaching stores.

If the problem is some driver failure or something, a bios update should solve. However, if it is at hardware level, Nvidia will probably have to change the signs or offer some form of compensation.
