Zotac reveals its RTX 50 with new security light for 12VHPWR connector

Zotac joined the list of AIBs by introducing its custom models of NVIDIA’s new RTX 50 series of Blackwell-based graphics cards. The models include not only the RTX 5090 and 5080, but also an RTX 5090D variant, exclusive to the China market. Zotac plates also have a safety light feature, which so far seems exclusive.

Starting with the details of each model, we have the launch of three series. The first is the AMP Extreme Infinity, which comes with factory OC. Zotac reported the gain for the RTX 5080 model, which comes with 2,670MHz out of the box, a little more than the 2,617 of the reference model. The gain is made without an increase in demand of 360W of energy.

Meanwhile, anyone interested in the white model with colorful details will have to go to China, because the X-Gaming models of the RTX 50 will only be sold there. The manufacturer also revealed a slight clock gain for the RTX 5080 in this design, which goes to 2,640MHz.

Finally, we have the RTX 5090D, made in Zotac’s Solid series. This model is a version of the RTX 5090 with reduced specifications to comply with US export laws, which have imposed strong sanctions on China. Therefore, obviously this card will also only be sold there.

When the 12VHPWR power connector for more demanding GPUs was introduced, it presented a safety risk to its users. This is because the connection was prone to shorts, overheating and melting, consequently creating fire risks.

That’s why the connection was updated to the 12V-2×6 version, present in many RTX 40, and also in the RTX 50. To offer a difference for its cards, however, Zotac decided to invest in even more security.

The RTX 50 models have a warning light that lights up if the connector is not properly plugged in and seated in the correct position. With the light on, the GPU should not turn on. Additionally, the connection pins were coated with gold to promote greater conductivity and prevent corrosion.
