The RTX 4070 Ti Super originally launched in January 2024, but Zephyr is still working on its mini-ITX “Sakura” version of the graphics card. Recently, the Chinese company took to social media to show its advances to fans of the brand, including GPU results using different materials for the heatsink.

The company is working on creating an RTX 4070 Ti Super that operates with the 285W of the original card’s reference TGP, also maintaining its standard performance, while delivering a much more compact format, with just one fan. This will be the first 4070 Ti Super with air cooling in this design.

According to VideoCardz, the company states that the cooler has already passed the initial test at room temperature at 35ºC, delivering the expected performance with a TGP of 285W. The company now wants to know from its users what level of cooling performance they expect compared to noise.

Zephyr tests different materials for the heatsink

In addition to showing its new RTX 4070 Ti Super operating with the fan spinning at different speed levels, Zephyr also shows results for different heatsink materials.

Options include traditional copper, aluminum and also a graphene-coated aluminum solution. This last option gives a very premium look, but unfortunately results in little advantage in practice. The results of the temperature tests were:

  • Copper with fan at 3,800RPM: 62.5ºC
  • Graphene with fan at 3,800RPM: 65.3ºC
  • Aluminum with fan at 3,800RPM: 65.4ºC
  • Copper with fan at 3,000RPM: 69.7ºC
  • Graphene with fan at 3,000RPM: 70.9ºC
  • Aluminum with fan at 3,000RPM: 71.7ºC

In the end, traditional copper proved to be a more effective solution for the new Zephyr board. Unsurprisingly, the fan making more noise also has a considerable impact on the cooler’s cooling capacity.

Now AIB is running a poll on its Chinese social networks to determine whether users prefer to sacrifice silence for better thermal performance or vice versa. Therefore, we do not yet have a launch window or price range for the new GPU.
