While for the current public Commodore is a strange name or that only appears in the midst of nostalgic content, it has become one of the largest PC manufacturers in the world. Inspired by this glorious past, The owner of the Retro Recipe channel decided to buy the company with the intention of making her big again.
Specializing in content production involving old machines, Christian Simpson (also known as Per Fractic) announced the intentions of acquiring the brand three weeks ago. In early June, he said he was successful on his journey and is looking for angel investors for his project.
According to Simpson, his investment in Commodore involves “Seven Low Digits” and has already attracted the attention of many important employees of the company. Although Youtuber does not reveal many details about the deal, he said many people are willing to invest money in the business, including billionaire Elon Musk.
New Incarnation of Commodore has no identity of its own
Musk has revealed several times to have a sentimental connection with the company, which was part of his childhood. He states that he has developed interest in computing by having contact with a Commodore VIC-20 at the age of 10, in which he developed a game based on Basic language.
Although Simpson is clearly excited about the acquisition of Commodore, it is still early to say what will be the face of the new version of the company. After its bankruptcy in 1994, the company was settled and sold to German company Escom – who went through the same destination years later.
With this, the rights to the brand, as well as about several of its properties, ended up spreading between various corporations and places. The agreement that YouTuber ended up firming was with the Dutch Commodore Corporation, who has the old name and at least 46 patents related to him.
Company promises ad soon
Simpson explained that he is still in the process of developing the new corporation, in which he invested the money obtained with the refinancing of his home. So far, however, he only explains that he intends to “honor the past and innovate for the future” without providing further details about his plans.
However, he explained that, About two weeks ago, it will reveal a new hardware with the brand. Among those supporting the project are names such as Albert Charpentier (C64 designer), Bill Herd (C128), Michael Tomczyk (VIC 20) and David Personça, former vice president of the company.
