Xbox leaves aside plans for its own portable; partnerships will continue

After several months of reports stating that Xbox was preparing the launch of its own laptop in 2027, the company’s plans seem to have changed. According to Windows Central, the company still considers the device important, but decided that it is worth leaving it for a future moment.

The intention at the moment is to continue strengthening partnerships with external manufacturers, such as ASUS, to produce Windows 11 -based devices. With this, more personalized products like the long -awaited Rog Ally 2 should hit stores in the coming years.

In other words: while Microsoft’s own portable xbox will still take a few years, We will still have many “portable xbox” being released soon. While the company does not consider its internal project as closed, there is no forecast of when it can be resumed.

Portable Xbox depends on advances on Windows 11

Microsoft’s main concern at the moment is the result of something that many consumers have already felt: Windows 11 is not fully prepared for portable gambling. Although it brings compatibility with many games and software, the system has not yet brings enough hardware optimizations that need to work with considerable energy consumption restrictions.

Thus, the company has decided that it is better to dedicate its current efforts to improve the way it works, using the devices of others as a test platform. In this sense, the personalized Rog Ally 2 – also known as Project Kennan – can be considered its first major challenge.

The portable PC should use an APU AMD Z2 Extreme as a base and seems to have all its terminated hardware side. It will be released along with a more conventional version of Rog Ally 2, which should not have Microsoft’s visual identity, nor a button dedicated to Xbox features.

Steamos competition should grow

At the same time that Microsoft will not give up its own laptop, it should prepare for an increase in Stea We competition. For many years restricted to Steam Deck, the operating system recently gained an update that makes it compatible with Legion Go S.

In addition, Valve enhanced AMD hardware platform support, opening more possibilities for interested manufacturers. In addition to being optimized since its origin for games, it has the advantage of relying on lower licensing rates than those required by Windows.
