The 24-hour deadline stipulated by the STF for the X present its official representation in Brazil, under penalty of suspension of the platform in the country. In a statement, X highlighted that it will not comply with the decision and is awaiting the blocking of the network. Check out the platform’s full statement below:

“We expect Minister Alexandre de Moraes to soon order the blocking of X in Brazil – simply because we have not complied with his illegal orders to censor his political opponents. These opponents include a duly elected Senator and a 16-year-old girl, among others.

When we tried to defend ourselves in court, the Minister threatened to arrest our legal representative in Brazil. Even after his resignation, he froze all of his bank accounts. Our challenges to his clearly illegal actions were either dismissed or ignored. Minister Alexandre de Moraes’ colleagues on the Supreme Court are either unable or unwilling to confront him.

We are not at all insisting that other countries have the same free speech laws as the United States. The fundamental issue at stake here is that Justice Alexandre de Moraes is demanding that we violate Brazil’s own laws. We simply will not do that.

In the coming days, we will publish all of the Minister’s illegal demands and all related court documents for the sake of transparency.

Unlike other social media and technology platforms, we will not secretly enforce illegal orders.

To our users in Brazil and around the world, X remains committed to protecting your freedom of expression.
