A Microsoft is facing yet another technical challenge in its attempt to consolidate the Windows 11 as the operating system of choice for its users.

While the company encourages the migration of Windows 10, which will lose free support in October 2025, new problems arise to complicate the transition. This time a serious bug in Windows 11 manual installers is preventing newly configured PCs from receiving security updates.

The problem with manual installers

The bug affects Windows 11 installers that were created with patches released between October 8 and November 12, 2024. This error compromises both professionals who configure machines in corporate and educational environments and enthusiasts who build their own computers. Devices updated directly via Windows Update or the official Microsoft catalog are not affected, but those configured with manual installers are vulnerable to security breaches.

Temporary solution and promises of a permanent fix

To mitigate the issue, Microsoft recommends that users rebuild their manual installers using the latest December 2024 patch, released on the 10th. Alternatively, a complete reinstallation of the operating system is suggested, ensuring that the installation media contains the December monthly patch.

The company reported that it is developing a definitive solution for the bug, but has not yet been able to completely identify the root of the problem. Meanwhile, rebuilding the installers remains the only viable option to avoid the error.

Windows 11 24H2, the lightning rod for problems

This incident adds to other complaints related to the Windows 11 24H2 update, which has already been identified as responsible for audio device failures and other recurring errors. Although the operating system has introduced important advances, such as interface improvements and new features, technical problems have fueled skepticism among users and companies that are still hesitant to adopt the new version.

With support for Windows 10 nearing its end, Microsoft faces the challenge of gaining the trust of its users while working to resolve Windows 11’s technical issues. For many, the success or failure of this transition will depend directly on the company’s ability to provide a reliable and seamless experience.
