Users report bugs and crashes on Gen 5 SSDs on AMD X670E cards

Users of high-end AMD X670E motherboards are reporting that they are experiencing bugs and crashes when trying to use Gen 5 SSDs. Models from different manufacturers like ASUS and MSI would be limiting the speed of the drives to Gen 1 numbers, when the system does crashes permanently, preventing Windows from booting.

Apparently, most of the problems appear in builds that occupy both the Gen 5 slot for SSDs and the PCIe 5.0 connection for the graphics card. In these cases, in addition to the limited speed of the SSD, the system sometimes crashes.

After noticing that their Gen 5 SSDs were being throttled to Gen 1 speed on their AMD X670E cards, some users tried limiting the speed to Gen 4 manually, and were successful in stabilizing the system.

WCCFTech reports that on the ASUS forums, the company recommended users to contact their respective SSD manufacturers. In fact, the problem may appear to be something with the drive, not the motherboard.

Different reports, however, show that the bug affects several SSD models, from more than one manufacturer, which includes MSI, shown above. Crucial even pointed to AMD partner motherboards as the source of the problem.

A person using a Crucial T705 with an ASUS X670E received a response from the SSD manufacturer and released the text. Apparently, the brand managed to replicate the bug on different AMD X670E cards and stated:

“We would like to inform you that we have passed your issue to our dedicated team for further investigation, and they have informed us that the issue is with the motherboard, rather than the Crucial SSD. This behavior has been observed on several cards from different manufacturers, and we were able to replicate it on our systems here as well.”
