How Fake Hard Drives Work

Upon opening the device, the user discovered that the content did not meet expectations. In place of a traditional hard drive, there was a small circuit board connected to a microSD cardfixed with glue to the chassis.

To simulate the characteristic weight of an original product, the forgers placed two metal blocks, one at the base and one at the lid.

O user u/BulyudiPorti reported that the external appearance of the product appeared authentic. The deception was only discovered after the unit was dismantled.

The packaging indicated that it was a modelo Seagate Backup Plus Slim de 1TBwhich normally houses a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive with a USB adapter.

It is recommended be wary of offers with excessively low pricesas criminals often create obstacles to return and refund processes.

Similar incidents have been recorded even on renowned marketplaces, such as the case of another user who received a brick in place of an RTX 5080 graphics card in a purchase by Amazon (This one is classic, unfortunately).

And the saying goes: just because today’s GPUs look like a brick, it doesn’t mean that a piece straight from the construction site will run your favorite games on Ultra.

Here in Brazil, a similar case was reported in 2022, when the son of cartoonist Mauricio de Sousa bought a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and received sand (but everything worked out for the young man later).
