The US government would be placing hidden trackers on orders from some Chip servers to detect possible deviations to China. The information is not official, but come from Reuters, which claims to have confirmed the practice with different sources in the server shipping chain.

Apparently these trackers are being used on product orders that are on the list of shipping restrictions on China, and only on shipping chains that are already suspected of circumventing export standards currently in force in the US.

At least five people involved in the shipping chain of these products confirmed to Reuters the presence of these trackers. The components would be placed in the boxes to send Dell and Super Micro servers, equipped with accelerators from both Nvidia and AMD.

The trackers vary in size, with some of the largest reaching the size of a cell phone. They are placed in the orders boxes, or even directly on the servers. But Reuters has not confirmed whether any of these trackers was even placed directly on the AI chip – suspected that China raised with the return of the Nvidia H20 signs to the country.

The main objective of the screening is to punish companies selling chips restricted to China

Also according to information from Reuters, the purpose of the inclusion of trackers is to gather evidence against companies already under investigation and punish irregularities. As the US tightens the siege in advanced technology exports to China, profit increases to those who try to circumvent these rules.

One of the sources of Reuters claims to have seen images and even videos of these trackers being removed from some of the shipping’s shipments of Dell and Super Micro.

The US authorities and companies that could be involved in practice were all contacted by the news agency, but no one offered effective answers officially.

Dell says she is not aware of the initiative, but Super Micro offered an interesting statement. The company states that “it does not disclose current security practices and policies to protect its world operations, partners and customers.”
