After a new escalation in the long geopolitical conflict between the United States and China, the countries announced that they had managed to advance their negotiations, establishing a new “truce”, this time lasting one year. The US will ease its export tariffs and China will suspend its new, tougher measures on sending rare minerals abroad for the period.
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping met at an airport in Busan, South Korea. The agreement stipulates that the US will reduce its taxes from 57% to 47% on products coming from China, and will resume purchasing soybeans from the Asian country. In return, the Chinese government will not increase its restrictions on rare minerals and has committed to stopping the shipment of fentanyl to the United States.
The truce also establishes a break in the “tit for tat” policy of escalating taxes that more than once stopped the shipment of products between countries, due to the high numbers they reached.

Leaders of China and the United States did not talk about Blackwell
One of the expectations for the meeting between the leaders of the two world economic powers was the topic of NVIDIA chips for accelerating AI inference. This is because Trump even commented that the two would talk “about Blackwells” in their meeting.
After the negotiations, however, the US president revealed that, although semiconductors were part of the conversation, the two would not have talked about Blackwell, specifically. In any case, Trump would have said that he “does not ignore the possibility” of allowing NVIDIA to sell AI chips to China.

Unfortunately, the statement is not very enlightening, since NVIDIA can already sell accelerators to the Asian country, as long as they are weaker versions. The restriction would have “zeroed” the presence of the world’s most valuable company in the Chinese market.
