Clearesult, a company specializing in energy transition and sustainability, announced the 80 Plus Ruby certification. The new seal ensures that power supplies reach up to 96.5% of energy efficiency in typical loads.
Although the difference between Titanium (96%) and Ruby (96.5%) looks small, it has Great impact for date centers and serversreducing energy waste and operating costs.
And the 80 Plus Ruby certification surpasses the titanium in all load ranges:
- 100% de carga: 92% (Ruby) vs. 91% (Titanium)
- 50% de carga: 96,5% (Ruby) vs. 96% (Titanium)
- 20% de carga: 95% (Ruby) vs. 94% (Titanium)
- 10% de carga: 91% (Ruby) vs. 90% (Titanium)

To give you an idea, in the case of a 1000 watt source, the difference of 0.5% (for 50% load) means 5 watts. In a 200 watt source, the same difference of 0.5% means 0.5 watts.
Despite the low value, the difference also consists that, in the case of companies that use servers 24 hours a day and several machines, The gain by the amount ends up being much more expressive.
In short, if home users should see little difference, companies that use large data centers can see a significant difference in the electricity bill at the end of the month.
Criteria for 80 Plus Ruby

The 80 Plus Ruby certification recognizes the global data center patterns for PSUs that reach 96.5% efficiency In 230 V, 277 V, 480 V CA-C and 380 V CC with 50% load and 90% or more at 5%, 10%, 20%, 50% and 100% of nominal power.
The 80 Plus also addresses the light load, ie when servers operate at low energy levels compared to their maximum capacity. In this mode, a 5% load efficiency requirement of 90% on data centers for adoption of standards and regulations is introduced.
Having passed the tests, there is a guarantee that food sources maintain high efficiency, even when servers operate in redundant settings or are involuntarily overdone for their applications. Thus, there is a reduction in energy waste and general operational efficiency is improved.
On classifications

PSUs have different energy efficiency classifications. This efficiency is identified by the seal, in this case, 80 plus. From 80 Plus Standard to 80 Plus Titanium, manufacturers offer solutions to consumers and companies aiming at greater energy efficiency.
So far, 80 Plus Titanium has represented the highest level of efficiency, but has been exceeded by the new 80 Plus Ruby certification. With this, there are currently 7 80 Plus certification levels:
- 80 PLUS® Standard
- 80 Plus® Bronze
- 80 PLUS® Silver
- 80 Plus® gold
- 80 PLUS® Platinum
- 80 PLUS® Titanium
- 80 PLUS® Ruby
And there are 7 categories of certified sources with any of the 80 Plus seals. Reinforcing that sources from each category can receive one of the different stamps according to energy efficiency:
- 115V (Desktop Interno)
- 230V I (Internal Desktop)
- 115V Industrial
- 230V Redundant AC for Data Centers
- 380V Redundant DC for Data Centers
- 277v redundant AC for data centers
- 480V Redundant AC for Data Centers
The official announcement was made in March this year.
