A few days ago, the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, became unavailable throughout Brazil, causing many users to end up migrating to other similar applications, such as BlueSky and even Threads.

However, last night (18) and this morning (19), some users began reporting that they are able to access the social network X through its applications for both Android and iOS on smartphones. Find out more details.

X has been banned from Brazil indefinitely

X was blocked in Brazil on August 31, and since then no Brazilian in the country has been able to access the social network. The court decision was made by the Supreme Federal Court (STF), which did not give any time limit for when this could be reversed, or even any certainty that it would be.

In other words, there is still no official information from the STF about a possible return of X. However, some users are reporting that this is happening on their devices. For many, the application still continued to send Push notifications, even after the block, but now they have managed to access the platform, including making posts on it.

This started happening on Tuesday night, and it seems to be something quite random that may have something to do with some structural issue with the operators. It didn’t just happen with one operator, but with several, including big ones like Tim and Vivo. Access only happens in the apps, but not in the browsers on the web version of the platform.

This possibility of re-entering X was also not restricted to one region, as users who reported the event live in several different states, from Paraná to Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and some states in the Northeast.

This new feature didn’t even go unnoticed on X. For those who managed to access the platform, they saw that the comment “Twitter is back” was at the top of the list of most talked about topics.

Could Twitter really be back?

So far, the official answer to this question is: no. There has been no official statement from either the Supreme Federal Court or ANATEL about the fact, but for now it is still an isolated incident that only happened to a few random people. It is most likely that these accesses will eventually be blocked.

Remembering that when X was banned in Brazil, the STF made it clear that it would only return after its 3 demands were met. The first would be the appointment of a legal representative for the platform in Brazil, the second would be the payment of fines applied by the courts, and the third would be the blocking of accounts that were posting anti-democratic content, hate speech and fake news.

So far, only one of the demands has been met, albeit by force. Last Friday, the STF confirmed that the blocking of the accounts of companies X and Starlink (which also belongs to Elon Musk) resulted in the payment of the fine of R$18.3 million.

This is good news for those who want the return of X, the former Twitter, but it is still not very promising. That’s because the fine was only paid for a block against Musk’s will, and it seems he has no plans to comply with the other two demands any time soon.
