Almost a year after the official announcement of its rebranding, Twitter has finally completed the transition of its identity to X.com, under the leadership of Elon Musk.

This change means the end of all references to the name “Twitter” and the iconic blue bird logo that have dominated the social media landscape for more than a decade.

Twitter’s Transformation to X

Since Elon Musk took over, the social network has undergone a series of significant changes. The transformation was gradual, with strategic changes to the brand and online presence.

The official handle changed from @Twitter to @X, and the blue bird logo was replaced by the new X logo on all its applications and on the facade of the company’s headquarters.

The rebranding process also involved technical and security changes. The site changed its favicons, initially activating some browser security safeguards. Tweetdeck, the popular tool for managing tweets, has been renamed XPro, and the premium Twitter Blue service has been rebranded as X Premium.

The Challenges of Changing URLs

Changing URLs was a critical part of this transition. For a while, the slow migration of old URLs to the new X.com domain posed a security risk. The inconsistency of the old and new URLs could be exploited by malicious actors for phishing practices.

However, this migration has finally been completed and, according to the platform, in a way that brings a safer and more cohesive environment for users. This means that when you try to log in to “www.twitter.com”, you will automatically be redirected to “www.x.com/home”

With the change finalized, the site’s home and login pages have been updated with a note that says: “Welcome to x.com! We are informing you that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same.” This notice makes it clear to users that despite identity and URL changes, their personal information remains protected.

Twitter’s legacy

The transition to X.com marks the end of an era for a platform that revolutionized online communication. Twitter, with its short message format and iconic blue bird, ended up shaping the social media landscape and certainly influenced the way the world shares information.

While the move to X.com represents a new chapter under the leadership of Elon Musk, there is no denying the importance and lasting impact Twitter has had on society. From social movements to advertising campaigns, the platform has played a crucial role in connecting people around the world.

However, the change is not a surprise. This completion of the transition to X.com is in line with Elon Musk’s vision for the platform, as he intends to transform it into something more modern. As the social network moves forward with its new identity, it remains to be seen how these changes will influence its user base and its ongoing impact on the digital world.
