Instagram offers a fun and dynamic way to share moments through Stories, and zoom is a feature that helps highlight important details in a recording.
Although the app allows you to zoom while creating Stories, enlarging them when viewing other people’s Stories is not a native function. But don’t worry! Here is a complete guide to using Zoom efficiently in both creating and viewing Stories.

How to zoom in on your Instagram stories
If you want to create a Zoom Story to emphasize an object or person, the process is simple and straightforward. Follow the steps below:
- Starting a New Story:
Open the Instagram app on your phone (Android or iOS) and tap the “+” next to “Your Story”. Then choose the “Camera” option to start a new recording.
- Zooming While Recording:
Tap and hold the capture button (center button), and swipe up without releasing it. This will zoom in while recording. To zoom out, swipe down.
- Using Hands-Free Mode:
If you prefer to record without having to hold down the capture button, select the “Hands Free” option (located on the side of the screen). Start recording and pinch the screen (slide your fingers from the center to the edges) to zoom.
- Publishing the Story:
After recording with the zoom effect, tap the arrow icon to share the Story with your followers.
How to zoom in on other people’s stories
Although Instagram doesn’t allow you to enlarge other users’ Stories directly through the app, there are some alternative solutions that can help.
- Accessing Instagram through the Browser:
Open Instagram in a browser (Google Chrome, Safari, etc.) on your phone. When viewing a Story, pinch the screen to zoom. This solution works, but the Instagram Web interface is less fluid than the app.
- Using Cell Phone Accessibility Functions:
On both Android and iOS, the accessibility feature offers a zoom option that can be used on any screen, including Instagram.
No iPhone:
- Go to “Settings” > “Accessibility” > “Zoom” and activate the option.
- Use three fingers to tap the screen to zoom.
No Android:
- Go to “Settings” > “Accessibility” > “Magnification” and activate the feature.
- Triple-tap the screen to zoom, or use a floating shortcut to zoom while viewing Stories.
- Screenshot and Magnification:
As a final alternative, take a screenshot of the Story and then enlarge the image directly in your phone’s gallery.
