United States President Donald Trump and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang would have filed a deal so that the company could continue to sell its H20 Hgx GPUS to China. The negotiation would have been made at a Dinner at the Mar-a-Lago resort, with a rate of $ 1 million per person for admission.
The information is not official and comes from NPR. In fact, we are talking about rumors on rumors. Some time rumors have been circulating that Trump administration planned to ban the sale of H20 accelerators to China, which are already H200 models modified by Nvidia to cut its performance and get permission to export to the Asian country.
These plans did not become official, and dinner with Jensen Huang was informed to NPR by some of its unidentified sources. Apparently Huang would have managed to convince the US president not to block exports by promising more investment in the country’s AI infrastructure.
Even though it is a reduced performance and price model, the sale of H20 to China is of enormous importance to Nvidia. At the end of last year a market analyst revealed that the GPU had a much more significant growth than the H100, and in the first quarter of this year there are reports that the company has had a $ 16 billion income with the product.
The NPR report does not explain how far the agreement between Jensen Huang and the president of the United States. Biden’s previous administration has already set a new law called Ai Diffusion Rule, which effects from May 15.
The “AI diffusion rule” prohibits the export of any US processor or accelerator to countries considered “high -risk” by the government. And that evidently includes China. Thus, it would not be enough to cut off the performance or export to a smaller number, Nvidia could not sell anything to the Asian country.
