This week, Tim announced a partnership with Intel to integrate 5G, eSIM and NPU (Neural Processing Unit) into notebooks. The company is already carrying out proof of concept notebookswith the aim of creating devices focused on high-speed connectivity, even without the presence of Wi-Fi.

According to TIM, the test notebooks use Intel Core Ultra processors, with a dedicated NPU, without neglecting the execution of work tasks involving artificial intelligence. Apparently, both companies have their eyes on high speed, in addition to the efficient execution of AI tool functions.

In an interview with the Teletime portal, Átila Xavier, director of technology and innovation at TIM, states that the Basic connectivity tests had good results. “We have already carried out basic connectivity and compatibility tests with our network and with our eSIM solution and they worked well. Now, we are trying to understand the applications a little better“.

Tim and Intel want to innovate in the notebook segment

During the Futurecom 2024 event, Átila Xaxier, commented that the proofs of concept are focused on notebooks with AI and Machine Learning. At the moment, we don’t know which notebooks Intel and TIM are working on to integrate 5G and eSIM. According to the telecommunications company, the initial results are as planned.

TIM has innovation in its DNA. Our goal with Intel is to explore new use cases and innovative business models that require high computational performance associated with mobility“, commented Xavier.

TIM and Intel’s main objective with notebooks compatible with 5G and eSIM is to promote “new business models“. The idea is to offer the user a product with high computational power (work by Intel) and fast mobile connection (work by TIM). It will be interesting to see whether the partnership between both companies will yield interesting products on the Brazilian market.

For now, we will need to wait for more official information on the topic. As Átila Xavier states that the proofs of concept show good results, it may not be long before we see the fruits of the partnership between TIM and Intel in the notebook segment.
