Thunderobot launches gaming PCs with Hygon C86 CPUs — performance rivals Intel Core i7 Raptor Lake

During a recent eSports tournament held in China, Thunderobot presented its new gaming PCs. They bring an unusual approach by incorporating not AMD or Intel CPUs, but Hygon’s C86 CPUs, made in China.

The promise is competitive performance in popular eSports titles and even the ability to run AAA games to some extent. As Hygon C86 processors are compatible with the x86 ecosystem, they should have no problems running the Windows operating system and its applications and games.

However, this does not mean that they have the processing to run games at maximum settings. And users still need to consider the other components.

Although pricing was not mentioned, gaming PCs with Hygon C86 processors are expected to be highly competitive in terms of value for money. However, another issue will be availability in the West.

Furthermore, more Gamer PCs with chips produced in China should appear in the future, which will make it easier for them to reach the Brazilian market. This considering that the The market is moving towards a China-first policy and fights with the US are intensifying.

These consumer-grade gaming PCs are ready to use. The most interesting choice is the CPU, which has 16 cores, matching the number of cores in current-generation AMD offerings. Although they have 16 cores, they should not be compared to similar 16-core offerings from AMD or Intel.

Interestingly, they are based on a chiplet design, with two chiplets, each incorporating 8 cores and 16 MB of L3 cache.

In terms of performance, the Hygon C86 is positioned between the Core i7-13700 and Core i7-14700 processors in the SPEC 2006 and V-Ray tests.

The same gaming system was also demonstrated running Black Myth: Wukong at a playable frame rate, although the GPU used in testing was not mentioned.
