O Google released this Tuesday (10) the list of the most searched terms by Brazilians in 2024. The annual retrospective, entitled “The Search of the Year”brings together the main trends on varied topics such as sports, pop culture, climate events, politics, music and even memes that dominated the internet.

Sports and major events on the rise

Sport was one of the protagonists of the year, driven by major competitions such as the Copa América, the European Championship and the Paris Olympics. The brilliant performance of Brazilian athletes at the Olympics, especially gymnast Rebeca Andrade, earned her the title of most sought after athlete in the country in 2024.

The impact of climate change

Natural disasters and climate events also caught the attention of internet users. The floods in Rio Grande do Sul, the heat wave that hit several regions of Brazil and Hurricane Milton in the United States were the highlights in searches related to environmental issues.

Politics and losses that marked the year

In the political field, the municipal elections generated great movement, while the death of Sílvio Santos, one of the biggest icons of Brazilian TV, was widely covered and led searches related to public figures.

Featured pop culture and entertainment

The Madonna and Bruno Mars shows moved the music scene, while the film I’m Still Here and the series Fallout captured the spotlight in entertainment. The public also showed a strong interest in dramas, reinforcing the growing success of Asian productions in Brazil.
