Every year several horror films are released to delight lovers of this genre. Some great, some not so good, but there are definitely some that stand out. And 2025 promises some surprises.

Werewolf
Scheduled to premiere on January 17, 2025, “Werewolf” is a Blumhouse production directed by Leigh Whannell, known for “The Invisible Man”.
The film is a reboot of the 1941 classic and stars Christopher Abbott as Blake, a man who, along with his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) and their daughter, moves to a remote house in Oregon. Upon arrival, they are attacked by a mysterious creature, and Blake begins to undergo terrifying transformations. Whannell seeks to revive the horror element of the original story, moving away from the milder adaptations of recent years.
The Monkey
Scheduled for release on February 21, 2025, “The Monkey” is directed by Oz Perkins and based on the short story by Stephen King.
The film follows twin brothers Bill and Hal, played by Theo James, who find an old toy monkey in their father’s attic. The discovery triggers a series of grotesque deaths, leading them to try to get rid of the toy. Years later, macabre events return, forcing them to face the curse once again. Perkins combines elements of horror and comedy, exploring themes of family trauma and the inevitability of death.
Extermination: The Evolution
The long-awaited sequel to the “Extermination” franchise is scheduled for June 19, 2025. The script is by Alex Garland, with production by Danny Boyle, who directed the original film.
The plot explores the evolution of the virus that devastated the population, introducing new threats and challenges for survivors. The cast includes Jack O’Connell, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes, promising intense performances that deepen the apocalyptic narrative. The film seeks to expand the series’ universe, exploring the moral and emotional implications of survival in a post-apocalyptic world.
The Bag Man
Scheduled to premiere on September 20, 2025, (in the USA, the date in Brazil has not yet been confirmed) “O Homem do Saco” is directed by Colm McCarthy.
The film stars Sam Clafin in the lead role. The plot shows a family that seems trapped in an endless nightmare when they begin to be chased by a creature known as Bagman (in Brazil, the man with the bag). His intention is to kidnap children and put them in his bag. Patrick McKee (Clafin) had already been a victim of this creature in the past, and now his fight is to save his wife and son.
The Conjuring 4: The Last Rites
The fourth part of the popular “Conjuring” franchise is scheduled for October 10, 2025.
Directed by Michael Chaves, the film follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren on one of their most challenging cases, facing a demonic entity that threatens to destroy an entire family. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return to their iconic roles, bringing the chemistry and intensity fans have come to expect. The new plot promises to delve even deeper into the lives of the Warrens, revealing details of their last exorcism rituals. “The Conjuring 4” maintains the frightening atmosphere and well-constructed scares, characteristic of the franchise.
M3GAN 2.0
Scheduled for release on June 27, 2025, “M3GAN 2.0” is the sequel to the technological horror hit that surprised audiences.
Directed by Gerard Johnstone, the film continues to explore the dangers of artificial intelligence run amok, with the M3GAN doll returning in an updated and even more menacing version. Allison Williams and Violet McGraw reprise their roles, while Jenna Davis and Amie Donald bring the unsettling M3GAN to life. The sequel promises to expand the franchise’s universe, bringing new technological threats and emotional challenges for the characters. “M3GAN 2.0” promises to be as electrifying and disturbing as the original.
Sinners
Scheduled for March 6, 2025, “Sinners” is directed and produced by Ryan Coogler.
“Sinners” is a supernatural thriller that promises to be one of the biggest releases of 2025. Starring Michael B. Jordan, the film has already attracted attention with its official trailer, released by Warner Bros. Pictures. The story will take place during the Jim Crow era, in the southern United States, and will show the story of two twin brothers who return to their hometown to start over. However, upon arriving, they encounter an ancient evil that threatens them, involving mysterious creatures and local supernatural practices.
