On the morning of January 1, 2025, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, leaving one person dead and seven injured. The incident sparked panic in the area and raised questions about possible motivations behind the explosion.
According to authorities, the vehicle was loaded with hazardous materials, including fireworks, gas tanks and camping fuel, all connected to a detonation system. The explosion was so intense that it damaged the hotel’s facade and caused panic among tourists and nearby residents.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Matthew Livelsberger, was 37 years old and an elite soldier on active duty. Preliminary investigations indicate that he was responsible for arming the detonation system. However, authorities are still working to understand his motivations and determine whether the explosion was an isolated act or part of a coordinated action.
The explosion happened hours after an attack in New Orleans, where a truck plowed into a crowd, resulting in 15 deaths. This temporal proximity raised suspicions of a connection between the two events, but to date, no relationship has been confirmed.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, spoke about what happened, stating that the explosion was caused by the materials transported in the vehicle and not by a manufacturing defect. He also highlighted the Cybertruck’s resistance, arguing that its structure minimized damage compared to conventional vehicles.
The FBI and local police continue to investigate the case. Public security experts point out that incidents like this reinforce the need for greater supervision in the transportation of dangerous materials and more effective measures to prevent attacks in public places.
The explosion reignited debates about security and domestic terrorism in the United States, especially due to the symbolic choice of the Trump International Hotel as the location of the incident. While investigations continue, Las Vegas tries to return to normal, but the trauma caused by the event will be remembered for a long time.
