Switch 2 could sell more than 4 million units in the US by 2025, analyst predicts

Although the Nintendo Switch 2 has not yet been officially announced, market analysts believe that it will be very well received by the public. According to Mat Piscatela, who works for Circana, new hardware could sell approximately 4.3 million units by 2025 within the territory of the United States.

He also explained that while he believes the console will have a strong debut performance, it won’t be able to surpass the PlayStation 5’s total sales during the same period. In a message posted on BlueSky, he hinted that this could happen due to production and distribution restrictions that could get in Nintendo’s way.

Piscatella’s predictions are based on information that the Nintendo Switch 2 could hit stores in the first quarter of 2025, or at the beginning of the second quarter. If they prove correct, the new device may have slightly lower performance than its predecessor, which sold 4.88 million units in the United States in 2017.

Interestingly, the numbers predicted by Piscatella are also lower than those recorded by the original Switch in 2023 in the United States, when it sold 4.87 million units. Within the country, the console’s best historical year was 2020, when it sold more than 9 million units during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the Circana analyst, the final numbers could end up being higher, but will depend greatly on Nintendo’s production and distribution capacity. Even with possible problems, the new hardware, combined with the launch of the long-awaited GTA VI, should help the North American market to register a “single-digit” growth in the percentage of spending on games in the country.

So far, the Japanese manufacturer has not released any official details about the Switch 2, which should be announced by the end of March. However, this did not prevent the final look of the device from appearing at CES 2025 and new information about the characteristics of its magnetic Joy-Cons from emerging.
