Supposed images of the Nintendo Switch 2 motherboard leak

New images of the motherboard for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 were reportedly leaked online shortly before the end of 2024, fueling speculation about the successor console.

The information we can see through the leaks indicates that the new generation of the console will use an NVIDIA Tegra T239 System-on-Chip (SoC), based on the Ampere architecture, with 1,536 CUDA cores.

Furthermore, the memory visible in the images is of the SK Hynix LPDDR5X type, with full storage capacity. 12GB RAMsuggesting a significant improvement over the current model with just 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

The photos, published on Reddit, show details of the board, including an improved thermal management system, with protection around the CPU and memory.

It is also possible to notice the presence of a slot for cards with one of them inserted, a USB-C port and magnetic connectors, features that maintain the console’s hybrid proposal.

In fact, the markings on the plate are somewhat different from what has been shown in previous leaked prototypes, which could mean that this could be the final version destined for the market.

Expected performance and technical features do Nintendo Switch 2

The Tegra T239 processor, belonging to the Orin family, includes a CPU with eight ARM Cortex-A78AE cores and an Ampere-based GPU, with support for technologies such as Ray Reconstruction and Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).

While the performance may be lower than consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, this limitation is nothing new to Nintendo fans. The company has historically prioritized unique experiences and portability, as demonstrated by the success of the current model, which combines home and portable console functionality.

Possible release date

The frequency of leaks suggests that an official announcement is close. Rumors indicate that Nintendo may reveal the Switch 2 on January 8th, with accessories arriving in stores from March 28th.

The market and fans eagerly await more information about Nintendo’s strategy for the new generation, while the company remains silent about the console.

With the current Switch breaking sales records, Nintendo is looking to consolidate its position in the market with the successor. It remains to be seen whether the new console will be able to repeat the success of its predecessor and attract an even larger audience.
