An (un)expected trend is dominating the PC case market in 2024: aquarium-style models. Those models of panoramic glass windows that have existed for decades, but whose popularity has skyrocketed in recent months.
According to a report from Danawa Research this week, sales of these products in Korea alone have increased almost tenfold since the beginning of the year, marking 2024 as “the year of aquarium cabinets”.
Lower prices and global popularity
The increase in sales was driven by attractive launches in late 2023, such as the NZXT H6 Flow RGB, which received good reviews on specialized websites.
In 2024, manufacturers such as darkFlash, Abco, and DAVEN introduced more affordable options, making this type of case a desirable item for PC enthusiasts. Data from Danawa shows that while the average price of an aquarium case was around $125 in end of 2023, in 2024 it dropped to approximately US$45.
The preference for aquarium cases is also influencing the size of PC builds. According to the study, there is an increase in demand for mid-tower and full-tower cases, as they offer more space for clean assembly and allow for better display of components internal.
The trend demonstrates the aesthetic appeal of these products in the face of successive increases in the size of new generation video cards, which make the PC a true showpiece.
Although Danawa’s report is focused on the Korean market, the popularity of aquarium cabinets could expand globally. In the United States, models such as the NZXT H6 Flow RGB and the Corsair 3500X are among the best sellers on Amazon, indicating that it is also conquering the West.
Even in Brazil, if we look at the number of products available in the most popular stores, we will see countless aquarium models with many comments and ratings.
Now, it remains to be seen whether these cases will continue to be on the rise in 2025 or whether they will be surpassed by other innovations. We will know better from the first week of next month, with the start of CES 2025!
It’s worth remembering that the PC case market is no stranger to innovation. A recent example is the Antec CX600M Triowhich combines three glass panels to offer a complete view of the components, similar to the aquarium concept.
For those looking for extreme luxury, the InWin Z-Tower It’s an option that costs an impressive R$43,000, showing that premium design also has its place. On the other hand, the InWin POC ONEa fully foldable Mini-ITX case, presents a different style of portability in a compact form factor.
