Rumors have been circulating for some time now pointing to Strix Halo, a more powerful version of AMD’s APUs, with a larger GPU. Now, we have a leak of what could be the first SKUs of the new family, accompanied by the commercial name for the series: Ryzen AI Max.
As always, we remind you that rumors and hearsay should be taken with a grain of salt. The information at least comes from Golden Pig Upgrade, who has previously provided accurate leaks. The person behind the account reveals three Strix Halo models, along with their core counts:
- Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (16 cores + 40 Compute Units)
- Ryzen AI Max 390 (12 Cores + 40 Compute Units)
- Ryzen AI Max 385 (8 Cores + 32 Compute Units)
Complementing the information, VideoCardz highlights that the top model then brings 40 CUs based on RDNA 3.5. This is information confirmed by AMD itself at the beginning of the year.
The “leaker’s” post on the Chinese social network Weibo also indicates that the Strix Halo will be able to allocate up to 96GB of video memory.
While fans are eager to see the capabilities of the large integrated GPU of Ryzen AI Max components for gaming, AMD seems to want to promote the line for professional use in order to compete with Apple’s M-series of processors.
While AMD is targeting Apple, Intel is targeting AMD. At least that’s what the rumors and leaks of the moment indicate. Supposedly, the owner of Core is preparing its own version of processors with larger iGPUs to compete with Strix Halo.
More processors:
Interestingly, the components have been called Arrow Lake Halo, a direct reference to the upcoming Ryzen AI Max processors. So if these CPUs do become a reality, will they be called Intel Core Ultra 200 Max? It’ll probably be a while before we find out.
