Valve’s Steam Deck is considered one of the precursors to this portable PC market, which has been growing and becoming more popular every year. This is because the device has been launched for some time, which means that many users are already looking forward to the next model.
However, to those eager on duty, Valve made it clear that the Steam Deck will not have new models so frequently. Although the company has launched the OLED version of the device that allows you to play games from the Steam library anywhere, the so-called “Steam Deck 2” may still take a while.

Valve will not release annual Steam Deck releases
Nowadays the portable PC market, with the aim of bringing great computer games to a smaller device that can be carried anywhere with ease, is on the rise. Several companies already have models on the market, but Valve still remains in the spotlight. In addition to being the owner of Steam, she is also responsible for one of the pioneers in this market, the Steam Deck.
With the arrival of the device, many users expected the company to launch updated models every year, but this is not on Valve’s calendar, according to the company’s designers.
During an interview with Reviews.org, Lawrence Yang and Yazan Aldehayyat, designers at Valve commented on this issue and made it clear that it will still take a while for the company to launch the next generation of the Steam Deck.
When the interviewer commented that many of the Steam Deck’s competitors are planning to release hardware updates every year, they made it clear that this will not be Valve’s strategy:
It’s very important to us and we try to be very clear about this: we don’t intend to follow an annual release cadence. We will not do one update per year. There is no reason to do this. And honestly, from our point of view, it’s not right for consumers to launch a product that offers a small upgrade over the previous model. As a result, we really want to wait for a real generational leap, without sacrificing battery life, before we can release the second generation Steam Deck. But it’s something we’re working on and we’re really excited about.
Device will have update calendar similar to consoles
The news isn’t exactly a shock to anyone who knows the company’s history and trends, as Valve is known for doing things in its own time without paying much attention to the competition. Still, other companies that are in this race, like Asus with its ROG Ally, can take advantage of this opportunity to stand out with new models.
Apparently, Valve’s idea is to maintain a console-style calendar, that is, as with the PlayStation and Xbox, which only receive updates after a few years on the market, which makes even more sense than follow a smartphone calendar where there is a new model every year.
Remembering that even maintaining a calmer pace, Valve still has some tricks up its sleeve to maintain interest and leadership in the market, such as expanding the use of its laptop operating system to other devices.
