For Star Wars fans, the Star Wars: Jedi saga is a gift and one of the best adaptations of this universe for the gaming world, and it is no wonder that it has already won over millions of players around the world. And the good news is that it is not over yet, since this saga will be a trilogy and will have a final chapter.

After the success of both Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019) and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023), Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that it has already begun work on the third game in the series, which will once again feature Cal Kestis as a supporting character and promises to conclude his journey. The confirmation came from recent statements by EA executives and developers involved in the project.

The success of the franchise and the promise of an epic ending

During a presentation at EA’s investor relations day, Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment and Technology, spoke a little about the great success of the Star Wars Jedi franchise games.

“We have delivered some of the highest-quality, best-selling Star Wars games of all time, with over $5 billion in net bookings”Miele said. She also mentioned that more than 40 million Star Wars fans have connected with the story of Cal Kestis and his evolution as a Jedi.

With this, Miele ended up confirming that Respawn is “working hard to bring the final chapter of this exciting story to players”. This formalizes EA’s intentions to conclude the narrative begun in Fallen Order, taking Cal Kestis and his team to new challenges and ending their arc in epic fashion.

Stig Asmussen’s original vision

Star Wars Jedi

Stig Asmussen, director of the first two games in the series, always intended to turn Cal Kestis’ story into a trilogy. Even before the release of Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019, he had already commented on his plans for a third game. In an interview with IGN, Asmussen said: “I always wanted to see this as a trilogy. How can we take Cal and the team to new places beyond what we did in the first game?”

Asmussen explained that while developing Jedi: Survivor, the team already had a clear idea of how the story should unfold: “We had a reasonably clear idea of the time period we wanted Survivor to be set in, what the stakes would be, the tone of the game, what Cal would be up against and how the team would fit into that.”

He also made it clear that they already had ideas of what could happen beyond that, giving a sign that the narrative of the third game was already in discussion since the early stages of the franchise’s development.

New Star Wars: Jedi game will use Unreal Engine 5

Although Stig Asmussen left Respawn Entertainment last year to form a new studio, his vision for the Star Wars Jedi trilogy remains a central pillar of the project. Prior to his departure, he expressed a desire to see the conclusion of Cal Kestis’ saga, and Respawn now carries that responsibility.

The third game in the series will likely be built on Unreal Engine 5, an evolution of the Unreal Engine 4 used in Jedi: Survivor. According to Asmussen, this transition will require some technical adjustments: “We have a lot of proprietary things that we’ve adapted into the engine to make it work in Jedi now, and we would have to tweak some of those things to make them work in any new engine.”

Despite the challenges, the change promises to bring even more realism and immersion to players in the final chapter of the trilogy.

Final chapter promises to close the saga of Cal Kestis

Star Wars Jedi

With the confirmation that Respawn is already working on the third game in the Star Wars Jedi series, expectations for the conclusion of the trilogy are high. The first game, Fallen Order, was praised for its engaging narrative and fluid gameplay, while Jedi: Survivor expanded the scope without losing focus on exploration and discovery, aspects that are the heart of the franchise.

Although the second game was released with some flaws and bugs and this ended up negatively affecting its debut, it is currently stable enough for players to enjoy it without any problems.

Now, for those who have already played both, all that remains is to wait for more news on how the story of Cal Kestis and, of course, the adorable BD-1 will end. It is not yet known exactly what the next adventure will be, but the final chapter of the saga will certainly be grand and full of action.

We’ll keep an eye out for updates, but there’s no release date yet.
