Spotify has gone back and brought an interesting new feature for its users who use the streaming service for free. It turns out that now everyone can view unlimited and complete song lyrics.
The decision comes after a negative reaction from users to the limit imposed earlier this year, which restricted access to lyrics to just three tracks per month for those who did not have a paid subscription.

Spotify’s limitation was not well received
The feature to show the lyrics of songs playing on Spotify was very welcome, mainly as a way to increase engagement with the app and bring something different to those who like to enjoy and get to know their music.
Last year, Spotify began testing the feature for its free users, but limited access to the lyrics to those who didn’t have a paid subscription. The move was clearly part of a strategy to encourage more paid subscriptions, especially after the overhaul of its subscription plans.
But, unfortunately for them, the change was not well received by the public, generating criticism and dissatisfaction among users who use the free version of the service.
In response to the criticism, Spotify has decided to reverse its decision and restore full access to lyrics for all users. A Spotify spokesperson commented on the change in a statement to Engadget:
“At Spotify, we’re always testing and iterating. This means that the availability of our features may vary across different subscription tiers, markets, and devices. In the coming weeks, we’ll be expanding the availability of lyrics to Spotify Free users so that more people can enjoy viewing more lyrics globally.”
Improvements for free users
During the company’s most recent earnings call, CEO Daniel Ek mentioned that the company is committed to improving the experience for free users.
“We are prioritizing improvements to our free product pipeline based on existing performance in certain markets,” Ek stated. “Additional improvements will be rolled out across our free experience in the coming months.”
While there is a need to attract more paying customers, it needs to be done in a balanced way. This is because at the same time it is also important to maintain your free user base, both as potential future subscribers and to keep engagement on the platform high.
