Sonnet announces dock for Thunderbolt 5 with embedded PCIe 4.0 SSD

Docks and hubs for Thunderbolt 5 seem to be becoming popular, so Sonnet Technologies wants to differentiate itself by offering a product that already comes with an SSD installed. The Echo 13 Thunderbolt 5 SSD Dock basically describes all its features in the name, and will be the first of its kind with a built-in drive to hit the market, according to its manufacturer.

Users will have the chance to choose PCIe 4.0 SSDs of different capacities to accompany their Echo 13 docks. Therefore, performance may vary slightly, but Sonnet promises up to 6,100MB/s of “data transfer” on the drives it intends to offer.

Being a dock, Sonnet’s new peripheral is obviously covered in connections. There are four Thunderbolt 5 ports, another four with USB-A 3.2, a 2.5Gb Ethernet (RJ45) connection and even a 3.5mm jack for headphones. The product also has slots for SD and microSD cards.

It is worth mentioning that one of the Thunderbolt 5 connections is the “host”, and offers up to 140W of energy for recharging devices. Sonnet claims that users will be able to use their dock to connect up to two 8K monitors or up to three 4K screens at 144Hz.

Sonnet will first make available the most expensive version of its new dock. The model accompanying a 4TB Kingston PCIe 4. NVMe SSD will arrive soon costing US$ 670. This is approximately R$ 4,067 at the current price.
