Solidigm showed FMS 2024 visitors a new SSD with an impressive 122TB of capacity. Now, the company has made the official announcement and confirmed the specifications of its drive, which joins the D5-P5336 line as the world’s largest capacity for AI workloads.
Solidigm’s new SSD will come in the same format options already available in the D5-P5336 series. In other words, the company’s customers will be able to obtain 122TB in U.2 (15mm), E1.L (9.5mm) and E3.S (7.5mm). Furthermore, the official announcement of the product brings slightly different numbers compared to its initial reveal.
As shown in the image above, the estimated performance for Solidigm’s 122TB drive has changed since its appearance at FMS 2024. The 4K random read, which exceeded 1 million IOPS, ended up at 930 thousand IOPS. The 128K sequential read, however, increased to 7,400MB/s. Finally, 128K sequential recording also saw a slight decrease, remaining at 3,200MB/s.
As the people at AnandTech already speculated, Solidigm uses NAND QLC in its new drive, as well as in other products in the D5-P5336 family. It also keeps the same controller, so the focus really is on expanding capacity, not necessarily performance.
Solidigm’s 122TB SSD is made for AI
As mentioned, the manufacturer highlights the use of its new drive for AI work. For starters, Solidigm promises unlimited durability in random recording over five years, which would be especially important in AI training and other large-scale data processing.

Furthermore, the new D5-P5336 works with great energy efficiency. Maximum power is 25W, while idle drops to less than 5W. Thus, according to the manufacturer, the new SSD delivers up to 3.4 times more terabytes per watt than 30TB TLC competitors.
Solidigm’s new SSDs will be available between the first and second quarter of 2025. Their price has not been disclosed.
