Solidigm discontinues P44 Pro and P41 Plus, exiting the SSD market for home use

Solidigm has given up on the domestic SSD market for good, after launching just two products. The company has officially discontinued its P44 Pro and P41 Plus models, and will focus only on SSDs for professional use in companies, data centers and servers.

According to information from Tom’s Hardware, even Solidigm’s official website has already removed references to its domestic SSD models, and even in Google search the company’s description and suggested official pages only mention its business models.

What draws the most attention is that the site discovered through its sources that the decision to close the PC SSD division actually happened the year before last. In 2023 the company announced layoffs, like many others in technology.

What was not evident at the time, however, was that the sector focused on household products was being cut off once and for all. Not only that, the unofficial information also mentions that they were almost ready to release a new Solidigm SSD model for personal use. Unofficial information reports that the closure was “sudden and unexpected”.

Solidigm Domestic SSD Shutdown Affects Intel Models

Probably not every reader remembers or knows, but Solidigm was once Intel’s SSD division. In 2021, the owner of Core decided to sell this segment, which was purchased by SK Hynix for US$9 billion, restructuring the division as a new company.

After its purchase, Solidigm still continued to manufacture two SSD models under the Intel name, the 660p and the 670p. However, with the decision to completely exit the home drive market, these models will also be discontinued.
