Recently, Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon X Elite line of processors, promising to compete directly with the Apple M2 chips, used in MacBooks. In a benchmark test carried out on a Surface Laptop 7, equipped with the Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 processor, it is possible to get a better idea of the results.

The benchmark was conducted by user HXL, who used the CPU-Z tool (ARM64) to compare the Snapdragon X Elite with the Apple M2. It is important to note that CPU-Z is not available for macOS, so the test was done on a virtual machine running Windows 11, which may have caused some performance loss.

The results revealed that the Snapdragon X Elite achieved 686.0 points in a single-thread test and 7,923.5 points in a multi-thread test. In comparison, the Apple M2 achieved 749.5 points in the single-thread test, but only scored 3,822.3 points in the multi-thread test, less than half the performance of the Snapdragon processor.

More options for those looking for efficiency

These results show that laptops equipped with the processor can offer superior multi-threaded performance than MacBooks with an Apple M2 chip. This performance can be crucial for users looking for high efficiency in tasks that require multiple processing cores.

Microsoft, which recently launched Snapdragon-powered laptops like the Surface Laptop 7, is betting that these devices will be able to challenge Apple’s lead in the laptop market. Qualcomm is also working to officially support Linux on the Snapdragon X Elite, expanding options for users.

The introduction of Snapdragon and X Plus processors represents a significant advance in the laptop market, offering more options for consumers looking for powerful and efficient chips. Manufacturers such as Samsung, HP, Lenovo and Acer are already adopting these new processors, providing an alternative to Apple laptops.
