Snapdragon 8 Elite has full Linux support, facilitating PC game emulation

Qualcomm officially revealed the Snapdragon 8 Elite last week, promising up to 40% more performance in its new SoC for high-end devices. Now, we have confirmation that the component arrives with full support for the Linux system. This is interesting for several reasons, including the fact that it will be easier to emulate PC games on the platform.

As you know, Qualcomm SoCs are made for mobile devices and optimized for Android apps. With the level of performance that the Snapdragon 8 Elite already achieves, however, it would be able to run several AAA games that come out on PC and consoles without major difficulties. The people at WCCFTech cite the results in the Steel Nomad Light test, from 3DMark, where the Snapdragon 8 Elite managed to outperform the Radeon 780M – GPU present in the ROG Ally.

Therefore, while developers do not make official versions of their PC games for Qualcomm processors, Linux emulation becomes an interesting alternative.

It is evident, however, that emulation does not have the same level of performance as native support for an application, be it a game or any type of software. So, Qualcomm needs to keep working to reach out to devs and get official game ports if it wants to truly exploit the full potential of the GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Promoting the new SoC’s gaming capabilities, the ROG Phone 9 will be one of the first phones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The so-called “gamer smartphone” will reach its newest generation on November 19th.
